Core 4: Setting the tone for a successful day... 2024.1.12

I am often asked, why do you get up so early? The answer is simple, the morning is the one time of the day that I own all to myself - no distractions or competing priorities.

From 4:30-7 AM, regardless of the day of the week, at home vs. traveling, family events, etc., the early morning is my time. I know that from 7 AM onward, my duties as a father, husband, financial advisor, and friend will be competing for limited time. The rest of the day is often already spoken for and subject to predictable changes. That's life.

Getting up early is a commitment, and it's best coupled with a focused routine to make the most out of this precious time. After a few years of experimenting, I have created my "Core 4" to focus this time to equip me to approach the upcoming day:

  1. Cup of Coffee while Journaling

  2. Prayer

  3. Exercise

  4. Healthy Breakfast

There is no specific magic to each of these simple activities. However, repeated consistently over time, they have become the an incredible routine that guide me each day to becoming the best version of myself. It is what works and I can repeat day in and day out - no distractions or competing priorities.

How do you approach your day? Are you intentional to set aside time to set up your day up for success? Or do you roll into the day and see where fate takes you?

Perhaps you should think through your Core 4 and set aside time each morning...
