The Gift of Mentorship... 2023.12.01

Happy 1st of December - Christmas coffee mugs are back!

This week our team had the privaledge to honor Bob Sytz and Ray Padron. Both Bob and Ray are retiring on December 31st after wonderful careers in the Wealth Management. Bob founded our firm in Charlotte, and was generous to extend a job offer to a 21 year old senior at the Citadel back in the fall of 2006... Ray was the Managing Partner of Brightworth, whom acquired us in 2017 and worked tirelessly to grow and integrate our teams.

In addition to their individual accomplishments, both have been amazing mentors. Not just the type to praise you in public, but brave and caring enough to deliver tough feedback in a kind way in private to really help you stretch and grow. They held me accountable, challanged me, and pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of at the time. They helped me to look into the future, see around corners, and navigate complex situations (being aquried twice in 5 years!) I am a better man, father, husband, advisor, and leader because of the mentorship of these two fine gentlemen.

A great mentor is rare... Not in avalibility, but rather in engagement. Rare is the situation where both sides lean in fully to invest in the relationship. From my experience, the best mentors always seem to be avaliable even when it matters - even when their calendars and schedules say otherwise.

More mentors are needed in this world. In our homes, our families, and our communities - mentors are a great and the spirit of wisdom. Cheers to all of the great mentors out there, you make a real difference in the lives of those you serve.
