On Wednesday of this week, I had the opportunity to visit nearby Winthrop University to participate in a panel discussion called Demystifying the Financial Planning and the RIA Industry hosted by Charles Schwab.
The students and faculty of Winthrop were wonderful, asking great questions to learn about the RIA industry from a panel of four advisors from across the region. While Mike, Kris, Aaron and I have different backgrounds and different experiences, we discovered early on that we all share a common trait... we are all veracious readers.
It was amazing to witness three peers with whom I know to be successful and greatly respect, openly talk about their lifelong love of reading, learning, and self application. What a wonderful message to share with a group of students looking to make their mark on the world.
I love to ask everyone I meet, what are you reading... and have discovered some amazing and lifechanging books along the way.
At the end of the panel, we were asked to provide a word of encouragement to the students. My response was to "remain curious". An open mind and a life-long pursuit of learning are a vital foundation to success.
